For Peggy

Today our world is darker,
For a soldier lost his wife,
She fought the battle bravely,
But the cancer took her life.

She knew his every battle,
And she held him when he cried,
And today our world is darker,
For a soldier’s wife has died.

She traveled round the country,
And stood proudly by his side,
She walked there in his shadow,
While her eyes expressed her pride.

She should have had a chest full
Of medals of her own,
She was the bravest soldier
That he had ever known.

She was a wife and mother,
A brightly shining light,
And Heaven is a brighter place,
Since she is there tonight.

There are no words enough to say
What she meant to all our lives,
Our world is so much darker,
Since Peggy said ‘good-bye’.

Her memory lingers with us,
She touched so many lives,
Thank you, God for sharing her,
That soldier’s loving wife.
