Our Flag is Still There

Many believe that because Ambassador Martin left the US Embassy in Saigon
with the American flag tucked beneath his arm, our colors were not abandoned.
But our government abandoned prisoners-of-war.

Our flag is still there.
Our flag is in the rags our prisoners wear on their backs.

Our flag is still there.
Our flag is in the blood that flows from torture wounds.

Our flag is still there.
Our flag is in the tears they weep for their families.

Our flag is still there.
Our flag is in their whispered prayers for rescue and in their damning cry:

"Where are you America and why haven't you brought me home?
Where are you America and why haven't you brought me home?

WHERE ARE YOU AMERICA?"

When a prisoner-of-war says the word "America" he's calling my name.
When a prisoner-of-war says the word "America" he's calling all our names.
How shall we answer the silent scream of the abandoned?

Where are YOU, America?
