Tears at The Wall
by Cheryl Huston

Here fall the tears of heroes,
As raindrops sliding down,
To form a pool of sadness
On the solemn, hallowed ground.

Here lie the tears of heroes,
As leaves scattered by the wind,
Left silently and sadly
By a not forgotten friend.

Here dry the tears of heroes,
Just ordinary men,
They leave their tears as tribute
To the heroes held within.

The droplets on The Wall you see
May not be rain at all,
But the teardrops from the saddened eyes
Of the ones who saw them fall.

Here keep the tears of heroes,
Just ordinary men,
That the dead be not forgotten,
And men not fall again.
