The Wind Beneath the Eagle’s Wings by Cheryl Huston
I want to tell you “thank you” For all the years you cared. I’d wake up screaming in the night And I knew that you were scared.
The endless nights I paced the floor My mind too wild to sleep. You knew my thoughts were on the war, But my silent pain I’d keep.
The family things I didn’t do, The things I wouldn’t say, The times I turned my hate on you I marvel that you stayed.
And when I can, I talk to you, To try to make you see, The person that the war brings out Is not the real me.
But your faithful caring is always there, And the comfort that it brings, Helps me soar another day, You’re the wind beneath my wings.
