When Eagles Cry….Again
By Cheryl Huston – 2002

The first time that the eagle cried
Was a time called World War I,
When many American families
Lost their fathers, husbands, and sons.

The next time that the eagle cried
We called it World War II,
When a place called Pearl Harbor
Shattered the innocence America knew.

Once again the eagle cried
When Korea claimed its price,
How many more Americans
Would freedom sacrifice?

In a place called Vietnam
The eagle cried again,
To lose so many fine young souls
For a freedom they could not win.

In Desert Storm the eagle's tears
Were soaked up in the sand,
When for the cause of Freedom
The price was paid again.

And on September 11th
The eagle's tears were yours,
When the real cost of Freedom
Came home to America's shores.

Our innocence was shattered again,
When so many lives were lost,
And now the eagle cries again,
At the rise in freedom's cost.
